Observation of two-dimensional surface solitons.
We report the first experimental observation of two-dimensional surface solitons at the boundaries (edges or corners) of a finite optically induced photonic lattice. Both in-phase and gap nonlinear surface self-trapped states were observed under single-site excitation conditions. Our experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions.
متن کاملObservation of two-dimensional coherent surface vector lattice solitons.
We report, to the best of our knowledge, the first experimental observation of vector surface solitons, which form at the edge and in the corner of two-dimensional laser-written waveguide arrays. These elliptically polarized vector states are composed of two orthogonally polarized components. They exist only above a power threshold and bifurcate from scalar surface solitons. The components of a...
متن کاملObservation of One- and Two-dimensional Discrete Surface Spatial Solitons
The recent theoretical predictions and experimental observations of discrete surface solitons propagating along the interface between a one-or two-dimensional continuous medium and a one-or two-dimensional waveguide array are reviewed. These discrete solitons were found in second order (periodically poled lithium niobate) and third order nonlinear media, including AlGaAs, photorefractive media ...

متن کاملObservation of two-dimensional nonlocal gap solitons.
We demonstrate, both theoretically and experimentally, the existence of nonlocal gap solitons in two-dimensional periodic photonic structures with defocusing thermal nonlinearity. We employ liquid-infiltrated photonic crystal fibers and show how the system geometry can modify the effective response of a nonlocal medium and the properties of two-dimensional gap solitons.
